Well, I survived surgery. The worst part was waiting, at least until I woke up afterwards. For me, nausea is worse than pain, and I had plenty of it coming out of anesthesia, but it passed by the time we left the hospital.
The surgery itself took longer than planned, as the fracture was more complex than expected. I didn't talk to the surgeon afterwards, but Nancy did, and apparently there was another bone fragment and an issue with one piece of my clavicle having a split in it. So I got even fancier hardware and a higher probability of irritation down the road. On the other hand, it's pretty clear that it wouldn't have healed well without surgery.
I'm just thankful that everything went well, and for the support of friends and family. Especially Nancy, who has put up with my grumpiness more than anyone.
Today I'm feeling a lot more chipper, and my shoulder isn't bothering me too much. The most annoying part is the enormous dressing that I have to keep on until the stitches come out. Otherwise, the pain is responding well to a fairly light course of percocet (5 mg every 8-10 hours or so).
Well, time to go do my exercises.
